Hi All !
I hope everyone is happy and well. I am through with all of this testing and
surgeries for now. I am walking without the help of a cane.
I have also started riding again. Last weekend I rode the Sespe
http://www.pashnit.com/curve.htm from Cathy's cabin in Pine Mountain Club.
The weather was great. I also learned that there was a god and that he has a
sick sense of humor. As I was riding the RK through Wheeler Gorge, a small
doe jumped out in front of me. If she was a second later it could have been
another bad crash. Thankfully, I was cruising at the speed limit and not
riding like a squid.
I mentioned to Cathy how much I would like a smaller bike so I can scoot
around town. She said "What about the Bonneville?". What about the
Bonneville, indeed! No one wanted to buy it when I was selling all of my
bikes and cars. As it was "undesirable". Even though it was the last year of
the T140V. I had offers on the Cub, but I didn't take any of them. By that
time I was tired of being spanked by having to sell my collection at a
fraction of what they were really worth to make my house payment.
I bought the Bonneville off of the showroom floor in 1978. It's since been
restored and mechanically updated. And I had just put brand new tires on
her. I washed her, put air in her tires, checked the oil, turned on the
petcock (it's been on a battery tender), tickled the carbs a little. And, in
just a couple of kicks from my bad leg, she roared into life. I have been
concerned about the gas, as she has sat for over a year. I guess that Stabil
stuff really works. Although I drained the carbs before it sat. I rode it
around Tujunga, but I am loathe to take her air cooled engine out in this
heat wave.
So, I am looking forward to start taking some long trips on the RK come
fall.
Oh, if Krusty's still around, perhaps he'd enjoy knowing that my business
partner, Tony, died last April of Stomach Cancer. He was 47 and left me with
a financial pile of shit. I should have been on to him 3 years ago as he was
just throwing envelopes, unopened, into a box. He told me he was working on
them from home, but that was a lie. And now he is dead.
Anyhow, I hope everyone is great and keeps the rubber side down. I know I
intend to.
Best to all,
Thumper

Glad to hear Thumper, you are doing okay and sorry to hear of your
financial woes. I had wondered why you were selling your collections, to
keep out of debt. It's been a while since I last posted in Reeky, I
remember you were hospitalized, glad to see you are up and about again.
I probably need to get the '71 CB100 fired up again and take her out for
a spin. That seemed to get grins on many faces that I passed by on. Also
repaint the '87 Savage, which really needs it.

Yeah, we just finished the original "Alfie". God I hate that movie. Also
still slogging on Magical Mystery Tour. The rest are just B titles. I have
been lobbying for the Invisible Man with Claude Rains, as it needs digital
fixes from a 16mm print. The Nitrate O-Neg is a train wreck. Universal
doesn't want to do it. So it will just continue to rot. Stupid thinking. Oh,
and I did another Maurice Chevalier film called "One Hour With You" from
1932. And, If you read in the papers about a treasure trove of silent's
found in Eastern Europe, we are doing those too. The intertitles are in
Czechoslovakian. So we are translating and doing them over, with the same
font, digitally.
Because of my relationship with Apple Corps, .I did get a chance to screen
The Beatles 1st Concert at The Washington Coliseum. It was no Kinescope
dupe, that's for sure. It was direct from a restored original 2 inch quad.
It looked fabulous.
When you see that film, all these years later (Paul is 69), you can't help
but get it. The Beatles were unbelievable in 1964. They were much more
animated than on Ed Sullivan and there had been nothing like them since
Elvis.. On the same program was Leslie Gore and The Beach Boys. Although it
was great seeing Carl and Dennis, they paled in comparison to The Beatles.

Sounds like that was about as close to stepping back in time as a
person can get! Glad you're back in the swing of things!
