My first full-size pick-up truck was a 1999 GMC Sierra SL. a 2-wheel
drive extended cab model with the short (6-ft) bed, 4.8liter small
block V8. Great truck. I traded it in on a 2000 GMC Sierra SLE, a 2-
wheel drive extended cab model with the long (8-ft) bed, 5.3-liter
small block, 3.73 rear axle, and the heavy duty towing package.
Wanted to be able to tow a 17-foot race trailer, and when not towing,
close the tailgate with a motorcycle in the bed of the truck. I also
liked the SLE because it had power windows and door locks, because it
was a pita to unbuckle the seat belt, and scootch across the front
seat to unlock the door for a passenger or to roll the passenger
window up or down. Great truck.
When I was done racing that time, I sold the "big truck" and bought a
brand new (5xx miles on it some 14 years after it was built!) 1990 454
SS big-block pick-up truck that had been bought from a collector's
estate, and had great fun with that truck (still the best looking
truck I've ever owned) for several years. It was not a great truck,
but it was a great toy, and when someone offered me what I had paid
for it 30 months earlier, I sold it.
My next truck was a more modern version of the 454SS in a way - a
standard cab, shortbed, but I bought it new via an eBay auction from a
dealer in New Jersy; a 2006 Chevy Silverado 2wd with the 5.3 liter
small block and a 3.73 posi rear end, and a 4-speed (rather than three
speed) automatic transmission. It was my only 4-wheeled vehicle for
several years, until I sold it and bought another 2006 Silverado, an
extended cab, long bed, 3/4-ton 2500HD with the 8.1 liter Vortec big
block and 17,000 pound towing capacity, to haul around my son's 2-
Miata race car trailer and my Screamin' Duc Racing motorcycle team.
With the disbandment of both race efforts, the 5,700 pound heavy
hauler didn't make sense any more, so that was sold earlier this year.
Tonight I bought .... yes.... a 1999 GMC Sierra 1/2 ton pickup
truck. This one is my first regular cab long bed, which will aloow
me to close the tailgate after loading a motorcycle, but is not so
long that it can't be parked in regular parkign spots, which is a
problem with an extended cab longbed truck. It is a one-owner truck
since new, and has all records with it. No accidents, no dents, no
rust, it is the 5.3-liter, 2wd, SLE model with the four-speed
automatic, and all the bells and whistles in the interior, including
power folding mirros so I can drive it in and out of the garage.
So it is back to the future for me, 12 years later.

Everything old is new again.
Congrats on the new truck.
