Well, there will soon be one less Aprilia rider going past me from now
on. A mate crashed through a fence on Sunday and ended up being
airlifted (from New Plymouth) to Wellington Hospital with leg, back, rib
and head injuries. Just got word that it's all over for him, it's only
the life support keeping him alive. The head injuries were just too
much. His brother also rides (Aprilia) with me, and now has the task of
deciding when to pull the plug.
Of course the usual ripple of "bikes are dangerous" and some of my mates
wives are muttering amongst themselves about their mans choice of having
some fun. To put it in perspective, at the same time he was being flown
down to Wellington, the other head injury passenger had been beaten up
down town by a group of teenagers in an unprovoked attack......shit
happens everywhere.

It is very sad to hear of your mate's demise. I truly hope that motorcycling
was his passion. When it is my turn to depart this earth I hope to be doing
something I dearly love.

Sorry to hear about your riding buddy. I'm surprised to
read about those teen aged thugs, though. I was under the
impression that NZ was peaceful and civilized. In the U.S.
it's expected, because our current "leaders" settle their
disputes with crimes and violence - the kids just follow
their example....

They were the 'gangsta/rap' type 'gang'.......we also import American
sub-cultures through the media. Not quite the type we need. The problem
has been bad these school holidays with lots of kids hanging out with
older 'gangstas' who think it's cool to king hit a totally unsuspecting
person ,then get the rest to put the boot in.
Not to worry, the community will step up to the plate...........
