Hi folks
I was out of the country the whole summer, and left my bike here for a
whole 3 months periods. I had removed of course the battery.
Now I coming back, plug in the battery, and the bike won't start. The
lights turn on though. When I start the bike, I hear it is about to
start, but then I hear this horrible clicking sound coming from the
battery.
I think a good bet would be to assume the battery is dead. Is this
clicking sound a symptom of a dead battery?
I ride a small Yamaha Virago 250 1995.
Thanks a lot
Charles

Extremely unusual conditions would have to prevail
for a battery to make clicking sounds.
They're probably coming from something mechanical
in your starter system. Was the battery on trickle charge
while you were away?

No, the battery was simply left there on the floor.
Actually, the sound is not coming FROM the battery, but from somewhere
near it I guess.
Thanks Sean

If you have a .5 to 2 AMP charger then give it a try over night. Check
the electrolyte level and top off to the fill line with distilled
water only. Jumpstart the bike off a car battery. (But not off of a
running car.) If you try to push start it, do so in third gear.
My local autozone or advance auto parts will test and trickle charge
batteries for free. Yours may also.
Good luck and welcome home.

Try charging it. If it won't take and hold a charge then it's dead.
If it's been in the bike since 1995 you might want to replace it on
general principle.
