So if I change the stock mufflers on my '08 FXD I would not need a re-map?

Doesn't Harley mtc include that service? and isn't there ECM
remappable? Unlike honda...

The ECM is remappable but that's definitely not part of any service
plan.

Newer HD's are set up to run lean right out of the factory. Anything
you might do to the fuel air ratio, such as swapping the mufflers,
could make it run even leaner, which is not a good thing.
Granted a muffler change will have less effect than adding a free flow
air filter, but it might still create a lean condition.
If you are going to swap the mufflers, why not improve things on the
intake side and remap the ECM at the same time, and add a few more HP
in the process.

OK, that was my understanding from some discussion with one of the techs at
my local darler shop.
