What are my options for a light and nimble city bike?
I'm about 5'9", 145lbs plus (tons of) heavy leather and cordura gear.
Not a beginner by any measure.

YZF600 at 590 lbs wet feels good on freeway, but is such a pig
to handle in a parking lot :-(
I'm thinking something like VFR400, but I'm in the States
and finding one in good shape would probably be a huge problem.
Does anyone here have Suzuki super moto and care to comment
on the problems with it?
What about Ninja 500? Ninja 250?
Thanks.

SV650 or V-Strom 650 (Wee Strom)

Both will go and both have lots of available options for carrying
stuff around.

If you can stay off the freeway, keep the YZF600 and buy a Yamaha
Zuma scooter. It's technically a moped and will go 40mph. There's
nothing like a scooter in traffic.

I'm not an owner, but can this 590 lbs. claim for the Y600
be correct?

Assuming I researched the right bike, this site:
http://www.bikez.com/motorcycles/yamaha_yzf_600_r_thundercat_2003.php
http://www.yamaha-motor.com/sport/products/modelspecs/8/1/specs.aspx
http://www.yamaha-motor.com/sport/products/modelspecs/25/0/specs.aspx
says 357-417 lbs. dry. Is there a 600 sportbike alive that
weighs 590 lbs.? What am I missin'?

You are right. Wet weight 490lbs:

I was off by a 100lbs. It feels like more than that. I think VFR750
was a bit heavier but did not feel like such a pig. Maybe it's the
width thing? YZF600 is rather wide.

Is suzuki still cutting corners during design?
I don't want random bits fail under stress just because suzuki
engineers thought that something was not "likely" to fail.

I think a fully gear rider on a scooter would look utterly idiotic
(or dorky at best) and i won't ride squid-like bare ass in rain.
Other than that I would've entertained the idea.

Corrazzo.net has the stuff you need to pose properly on a scooter.
