Motorcycling was a real education for me about what 60 MPH _really_ means.

Rain hurts on bare hands (which surprised me).

Getting beaned with an insect in the face can hurt.

One of the skydivers I hang out with knows somebody who got serioulsy
injured by riding into an owl at speed.  I imagine a turkey isn't any better
(or perhaps worse--a more massive bird).

One of the funniest stories from the skydivers is about rain.  Rain hurts
skydivers, too, while in freefall.  They are falling about 120 MPH and
striking the drops from the top.  According to the skydivers, it hurts
because they are hitting the pointy side of the raindrops. (*)

(*)That is a really bad joke.  If you don't get it, say so, and I'll explain
it.

Ayup. Wear gloves.  I once got whacked on the left hand by a woodchock.

Ok, it was a chock (you know, made of wood) that fell off a flatbed
trailer, run over by the car in front of me, shattered, and a 2x2x12
piece of it hit my clutch lever which pressed it hard against my hand
between it and the handlebar. Didn't break any fingers, but I couldn't
feel anything for an hour. Gloves didn't help.
