Judge accepts Lane deal
Celebrity motorcycle builder could get 9 years at August sentencing
BY KEYONNA SUMMERS FLORIDA TODAY June 10, 2009
A judge on Tuesday OK'd a plea deal that could net celebrity
motorcycle builder Billy Lane up to nine years in prison on a single
felony count of vehicular homicide.
Lane, 39, decided to plead no contest to the charge after prosecutors
agreed to drop a DUI manslaughter charge under the deal. He will seek
a sentence that calls for no prison time.
The plea bargain also mandates a lifetime license suspension.
However, defense lawyer Greg Eisenmenger said Lane will be able to
petition the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles after his
release for a hardship license, which would allow him to retain use of
it for specific purposes, such as work.
