A couple of years ago I posted about taking my 79 year old father for a ride
across the Cherohala Skyway. I didn't think I'd be able to top that.
Today he and I rode almost 10 miles of Class 2,3 and 4 trails. I was on my
Suzuki DR250, he was on his 500cc Polaris 4wd ATV. He's 81 years old.

What could go wrong there!

You're absolutely right. He should stay home and hide under the bed. When he's
not riding his ATV, he's riding horses over the same trails. Some people
confuse breathing in and out with living. He and I are not those people.
This may shock you, David, but some people don't spend their entire lives saying
"Oh shit, something might go wrong!"

That wasn't my point.
What is a medium injury to someone your age may be fatal to an
81-year-old. Riding motorcycles, ATVs, and horses can get you thrown
and busted up a bit in a way that is more serious for an 81-year-old.
I'm not saying he should stay home.
I'm just saying that those activities tend to cause injuries that
ain't too great for someone his age.
Shuffleboard, bingo, gambling, and fornicating seem safer.
