This is an interesting set of quick-release sideplates and luggage
rack. The owner has used it to mount a trunk just behind the driver's
seat. In this case, the seat was a two-up item, and the rack covered
the passenger area. The owner stated that the sideplates and rack were
standard HD parts, but I can't find them in the online catalog.
Looks like it would be a good starting point for making a very large
luggage rack to fit right behind a standard solo seat.

Looks as if he took two sets of sissybar-uprights, mounted them
backwards and trimmed off the part that extend upwards above the rack.

I dunno but, from that picture, it sure uglies-up the bike, if you ask
me...

It looks out-of-place because it overhangs the seat, but on a solo
bike I think it would be OK.

I'm still not so sure. It's so massive and distracting, it's the only
thing your eye will dwell on when you look at the bike. Up to you, of
course, but I'd look for a better way.
If I were you, I'd go with something like this:

That way, you can pack stuff on the luggage rack, facing rearward, and
- just so long as you don't carry a passenger - you can also strap
stuff to the sissy bar, sitting on the passenger seat, facing forward
(which also makes for a nice back rest). T-bags with slots for the
sissy bar are made for that.
