I have a 1996 Honda Shadow 600. While driving it will sometimes cut
out like it's not getting gas. It will then cut off, after quite a bit
of trying to crank it, it will finally start. It doesn't do it all the
time, but it usually give no warning until it starts slowing down and
cutting out. It also pops at the top of the engine, when I try to keep
it running. I can't seem to find anything on the net to help with this
problem. Can someone please help me?
Thank you very much

Yes, a mechanic. "Pops at the top of the engine" is
both not good, and indicative of a non-mechanic.

Thank your mechanic... and he will thank you, for
owning a decade-old bike and not being a mechanic.
That's how his kids are fed. Unless you feel like
getting inside your carburetors (own any good tools?)
you'll help feed them.
Should you still be game, the next step is to Buy
The Book On Your Bike. Factory is best... check eBay.
I'm sure your entire fuel system needs a good cleaning
and checkout by now.

Check the fuel filter for dirt then move to the next obvious thing.

I want to tell you that I had a similar problem on a 1995 Honda Shadow
Ace and found out that my voltage regulator went bad. I hope this
helps. I do suggest that you get a haynes on your bike model.
