Lucky me - I happen to live in the 1st jurisdiction in North America
to implement a carbon tax. Starting July 1st (Canada Day, ironically)
gas prices jump by 2.4 cents per liter in Beautiful British Columbia
(the slogan on our license plates).

Driving home tonight I saw long lineups of cars at every gas station,
trying to fill up before midnight. I put $75 worth in my van.

Oh well maybe this will help sell my Virago 250 a bit faster. I'm even
thinking of selling the S40 (to help finance a Hinckley Bonnie).

None of my business, but have you considered a real 'Bonny? I sold mine for
under $4000 USD, both in excellent shape and I've seen several very nice
restorations for about the same. Thanks to their popularity, spare parts are
more readily available than for a 3-4 year old ricer. OHOH, unless you are
very lucky, one must be able to do your own services and all.

I thot long and hard about a Hinckley Bonnie but they weigh and cost about
the same as a Sportster and it is far easier to get H-Ds serviced than
Hinckleys here in the States and H-Ds do not need valve adjustments. I liked
the Hinck a tad better but, here, they are sold by rice dealers who don't
stock spares and want to keep your bike several days for a service.

The Sportster is heavier:

Another vital factor is comfort. The Bonneville's neutral riding
position is one of its biggest attractions (for me).

Both cruisers and sportbikes are hard on my lower back. The most
comfortable riding position I've found so far is the Honda Goldwing.
Next being (surprise) Suzuki's V-Strom ... at least it would be
if the bars were a few inches back.

My Harley is good too, if I ride with my toes on the rear edge of the
footboards.

Well your government got 15 cents of my money for their carbon tax
when I topped up in Fernie this morning.

Considering our ride started in Calgary, then Lake Louise via the Bow
Valley Parkway, Sask Crossing, Jasper, Valemount, Kamloops, Vernon,
Needles, Nakusp, New Denver, Kaslo, Kooteny Bay Creston. Pincher Creek
and then home, I'd say it was money well spent.

What a hell of a weekend. :-)))

Yep. And that's all this 'carbon' bullshit is ultimately about --
money.
