I didn't, until I heard a metallic scraping sound while rotating the
rear wheel while washing the bike..

$150 for a new rotor, and several hours work to replace it and
disassemble the caliper to fix a cocked piston..

I bet you got cool sparks when you applied the brakes.  That looks
pretty nasty.
