I'm looking for a clear plastic waterproof bag (with a velcro or
watertight zipper) closure to glue onto
a jacket arm (to be used to house a garage door remote).
Short of buying a Roadcrafter (i'm mulling over that but am also in a
penny pinching mood today:
that is, i don't own an oil rig) what are good solutions that won't
look dorky?
btw is the plastic on the 'stich arm pocket very heavy gauge?
is it zipped or velcroed together?

Depending on where you are, try West Marine. Boaters frequently have
a need to keep things dry, and have to do it under somewhat more
difficult conditions than motorcyclists. They've gotten pretty good at
it.

Other places to try include REI, Eastern Mountain Sports, Cabelas, LL
Bean, or if you're in Jacksonville FL try Black Creek Outfitters. All
of them also sell online.
In all honesty though, for something the size of a garage door opener
I'd just use a Ziploc freezer bag of the appropriate size. If it
tears then toss it and use another one. If you want to be double safe
then double-bag it.

Why not buy a keyfob-sized garage door remote and keep it in your
pocket. You can still push the button through rain pants.
