Fight a Black bear and play dead with a Grizzly/Brown bear is what
they say up here. They used to say play dead with a Black bear but
start fighting if it starts to feed on you.

A girl on a bike was attacked by a Griz last week. Like most, the
Griz just hit her and ran but it got her in the neck. Her 911 call
showed she could barely talk. By coincidence, my brother's parole
officer (the one who makes recommendations about those things) was
also hit by a Griz while mushroom picking a month ago or so, so he's
got a new one now. She only received a few puncture wounds.

Or in the case of the location of this incident, how much BC bud was
involved.
