Dead Battery...Help!

Hey folks!

Bike is a 2004 Shadow 750 Aero

I made the mistake this week of leaving my key in overnight and the
battery is now very dead. A buddy and I did the ol "run it down the
road and pop the clutch" start method which worked but the battery
never regained any charge, it wasn't running smooth at all and not
responding to throttle. It eventually stalled after about 10 min with
no battery power at all.

A couple suggestions that have been made to me:

1)Boost it from my car and let it sit for a long time hooked up to
recharge the battery
2)New Battery
3) Take the battery out and get it charged somewhere

I'd prefer not to do either of the last 2 as time precious to me, and I
dont have a lot of tools to get the seat off/battery out.

Any suggestions from our resident experts?

Might be necessary.


Or spend $30 and get a charger of your own.  Pick up a
trickle charger, and you should be able to charge it back
up yourself.  Look for one called "Battery Tender".  It has
little wires that you hook onto the battery so you can plug
the charger in in the future with no tools/effort.  You can
console yourself that this will never happen again this
way.


If time is precious, the fastest way is likely a new
battery.  But even then, many of them don't come charged
and need to be charged for a day or two first.


Abuse a battery (let it sit discharged) on a bike, and
expect a new battery to be purchased annually.

It's never a bad idea to periodically check a battery, to make sure the
electrolite level is ... well.. up to the required level, so even if you can
bump/jump start it and get the thing to charge from the bike, you'll STILL
need enough time to check it. You'll need to check a new one too, so your
"only" option (#1) isn't really an option at all.

10mm wrench does it for me. Unbolts the seat and unbolt the battery
terminals. Not what I'd call a lot of tools.
