The local Suzuki dealer offered to reserve me a new '09 DL1000
until spring. I'd pay nothing now, just sign papers. They get
the bike shipped in from the distributor, prep it and store it
at their facility until April or whenever... at which point
I have to come up with the full purchase price and take delivery.
Is that a deal or what. I'm getting awful tempted.
Meanwhile my (former) Harley misses me. I can hear its voice
calling from far away, saying "You can sell me any time you
like, but you can never leave (me)."

Ummmm??? Before knowing what kind of deal that is, it would be useful
to know the selling price. The fact they will get one, do the typical
dealer prep and then let you take it home after you pay for it, is not
special service. It is kinda what they do.
Is there a big difference in the price of an 09 and an 10?

I don't recall which HD you owned. It does sound like you miss it more
than it is missing you. If that is the bike that turns your crank, buy
it.

Kinda, but the salesman proposed this arrangement when I explained
my situation, which is that I'm expecting a financial settlement for
the accident 3 years ago on my Virago 250 (since sold). However
the amount of the settlement and the timing is uncertain. It looks
to be mid to late spring. The court date is some time in May
but my legal team (the phrase makes me feel more important than just
writing "lawyer") expects a good out-of-court settlement.

Yes, to my recollection. I haven't talked to the salesman lately
and I'm going back there tomorrow.

An Ultra Classic Electra Glide Screamin' Eagle III bored out to 95 cubes
with gear-driven performance cams and a few other goodies.

In psychology I think it's called "projection".

The other side, if they know they have no case, will bluff right up to time for
jury selection and then offer a deal to your side. If it involves personal
injury, they'll probably go right up to their guy's insurance limit. That's as
good as you're going to get. You can go after personal finances or possessions
and you may get a "judgment" which is almost as good as the paper it is written
on. You'll spend the rest of your life and everything you have trying to
collect the first cent of it. Your "team" will skim 1/3 right off the top of
what you do get, and you'll pay through the nose for any depositions, experts,
and anybody else who charges for anything they've done for your case. If you
got any insurance payments for medical treatment or property loss, you'll have
to pay that back. Ditto with any temporary disability payments. In these
cases, your insurance is not insurance, it's just a loan. By the time it's
over, you'll be lucky to get half of the total settlement amount. The sharks
get the rest.

All good points Jack, but Sean lives in Canada and our systems are
significantly different than those in the US. That said I would agree
with the underlying premise in your message in that I would not be
spending the settlement until I had the cash in hand.
