Just saw the review of the Ducati Desmosedici RR on MCN, you know the one
Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise each bought for $75,000. They gave it 5 out of 5
stars for "Value" (?!?).
Then I saw where the same MCN went and complained - as they all do - about
the BMW K1200GT costing too much money so they only gave it 3 out of 5 stars
for "Value."

If so, then the BMW should have gotten 10 out of 5 stars for "Value" if the
Ducati is such a "good" deal.

The Ducati will almost certainly double it's value -simply as a collector's
item- within the next ten years or so, and will continue to appreciate after
that.
How much will the BMW be worth in ten years?

My guess is that they have categories not unlike the Grammy's. The Duc is
probably a pretty good value in the category, Insanely Expensive Bikes
That Only Insanely Wealthy People Will Buy.

I'm far from insanely wealthy, but I would love to have the
opportunity to buy a demosedici. I missed out on the Supermono in 1993
when it cost only $30,000; now they are selling for $60-$75,000. I
have friends who own cars that cost $70,000 and they are
depreciating. I don't own (nor do I want) a car that costs $70,000;
and while I don't have $72,000 floating around to buy a desmosedici,
if I weren't going racing, I might be tempted to borrow the money to
buy one, and I would certainly qualify for the loan!

Yeah, I was exaggerating a little. I suppose a person could manage to
write off the purchase as an investment too, if they knew what they were
doing.

Considering that the racing prototype from which the Desmosedici RR was
developed probably cost $500K to $1000K, the street bike is a value bargain,
as are all the race replicas.
And, it will never lose value to a collector if it is not totally wrecked.
