Local dealer has a '98 916 for $5K.
My first reaction was that it seemed to have an ugly custom paint job,
but I Googled
it and found that it's apparently painted like Mike Hailwood's 1978
Isle of Man TT-winning Ducati.
I want it because it's pretty (other than the paint) and cheap but I'm
not sure if I am ready for something like this when I've only ridden a
250.

My point being that if you don't think you're ready - you ain't . Buy a nice
600 or 750 RiceBike , ride it until you're ready for the Duc . I'm a Harley
touring guy , but I do know that Duc's a thoroughbred, and you've apparently
just graduated from ponies ...

Most 750 ricebikes would make more power than that Ducati.
