Riding with the wife on back this summer I learned the suspension was
pretty soft.  Front and rear are air shock with not other adjustment (that
I know of).  It was OK on normal roads but would bottom out really hard
when I hit the occasional stretch of Alaska road.  The front shocks get
oil into the air line, so they may soft in part due to lack of oil.

Looking at Progressive Suspension, I found the only front spring offered
is the dealer spring.  A check over on Sonic Spring revealed the same
thing, really.  They didn't list a front spring at all so that leaves only
dealer.  There are half a dozen options for the rear at Progressive, but
only one air shock.  According to Progressive, Harley recommends the heavy
duty "HD" spring if two up riding near full load rating is anticipated.
The air shocks are not rated HD, so it seems that if I want to stiffen the
rear, I'll need to go with a non-air HD shock.

Anyone have experience with FLH/FLHT 80-01 suspension?  Actually, when you
look at 02-05, some of the part numbers are the same too, but that's how
Progressive breaks them down.

My goal is to stiffen the ride so I don't bottom out so often.  Would you
replace airshocks with non on the rear to get a stiffer ride?  Any other
manufacturer out there that offers stiffer front end springs, or stiffer
rear air shocks?  Does Harley have options that Progressive isn't listing?

I'm 220 while she's 135.  It's just got highway suspension and no
adjustment other than pre-load on the rear.

Will she let you be on top? Cat is about 99 lbs and I'm now at 220, going
down from 260. I tried it last weekend and she said I was still crushing
her.

That's okay with me, though. I'd rather be on the bottom ,with her doing all
the work on top, anyway.

I hear you.  I'm only allowed on top if I support myself pushup style.  I
still intend to get on down to 190 sometime before cremation sets in.  I
actually picked up some weights the other day for about 5 minutes.

Congrats on the weight reduction.  I know it's not easy.
