One of the things I miss while riding the Road King are the tunes. The
Venture has the full sound system, AM, FM, CB, Cassette [1], intercom.
I can live without the CB and intercom but I do enjoy the other
features.
I could easily add a stereo to the RK if I added a bat wing.
Unfortunately one of the things I like about the RK is the absence of
a bat wing.
I have been looking at the after market road tune products that are
available and discovered, as we all already know, if it is made for a
motorcycle the selling price will be triple the value of the product.
Marine products suffer a similar malady, but not to the same extreme.
Double the true value seems to be the norm.
Long story short, if that is possible for me, here is a source unit I
am looking at. It is a marine application.

or the tiny url if you prefer.

The main unit could be mounted in a saddlebag or the tour pack, if I
ever get it painted, and the control unit could be fixed to the
handlebar or the console. I think it has all the features I want and
is reasonably priced ($250.00) compared to some of the other products
on the market. I have some old driving lamps that are the perfect size
to house a 4" speaker. I would fit them with Polk Audio DB401's.
Mounted to the handlebars they would serve as front speakers. The tour
pack, if ever painted, has pockets for a couple 4" speakers.
Now to my question. The specs for the CMS1 note it draws "less than 15
amps". I doubt I have 15 amps to spare with the RK. Does the term
"less than 15 amps" when used in a spec sheet mean well under 15 amps
or close to 15 amps. This thing isn't driving a woofer and it is rated
for 40 watts x 4 for the regular speakers. 15 amps sound like a lot of
draw for this kind of power delivery.
Any advice would be appreciated.

I have an Ipod and use it often. The CMS1 is Ipod friendly.
I also like the AM/FM to get local news and weather forecasts. The
CMS1 has the weather band too. I don't think I can receive it in
Canada but I spend a fair bit of time traveling in the States.
If I choose I could wire my satellite radio through this unit. I have
let my subscription lapse but I might renew it.
As I mentioned to Mark, I have always found helmet speakers to be
incredibly distracting. I just cannot get used to them.

My Sony MP3 player also has an FM radio in it. I used it just today
while mowing the yard. Sony ear buds fit great inside a helmet and
double as ear plugs blocking out wind noise.
On my FJR I prefer using an XM radio running thru my Garmin GPS as
changing channels is a touch screen operation that is relatively easy
and accurate even with heavy gloves. I take the little MP3 player on
my cruiser bike if I take it for a long ride, but that isn't very
often. Just put it in shuffle mode and let it play everything.
