I pulled each fuse in JBOX and they're all fine. I do have a bid in on
a used JBOX. New ones run $180 from the dealer installed.
Anyway, here's another symptom I didn't notice before. When the
headlight doesn't come on, the left turn blinker doesn't light up as a
running light, but the right-hand side does. The left side blinks OK,
though.
I checked the left side bulb and it was fine and, indeed, lit up when
the headlight came on, which is becoming fewer and farther between
now.
Another symptom is that when the headlight doesn't come on, the low
fuel gauge blinks and there is a ticking just as you would hear when
the turn signal is engaged. Comes from the right hand side under the
seat (which is where the JBOX is, too).

Hi Greg,
I don't think any of us can be of great assistance to you, given the complex
symptoms you've described, without a schematic of the cycle.
Do you have one?
Can you convert it to a .PDF and put it on the web somewhere?
Thanks, Dave.

Dave, I don't have a schematic until I my son retrieves the mtc manual
from his frat house. Once I get that back, I'll see if I can post it.
Thanks,
Greg

I think a switch or relay problem sounds real likely just
because of the wide variety of wierd problems all at
the same time. Could also be a problem in the main
battery cables causing a low voltage condition all over
the bike. I'd start with the cables because they're easy
to check. I'd also check and clean relay contacts and
connector pins.
When lots of things go nuts at the same time, there's
some problem in a central component. Last one I had
was a crapped up battery ground which manifested
itself as a non-functional tach and the engine coughing
when you put on the turn signal. When I fixed the ground
things got 100% sane again.

Tha'ts some strange stuff!
I'm expecting a used junction/fuse box next week and if that doesn't
fix it, I will pull the tank and trace/text everything best I can, inc
battery cables and grounds.
Thanks,
Greg
