Went to a formal wedding this weekend. Open bar, expensive band, etc.
The rehearsal dinner cost more than my motorcycle, the wedding itself
more than my house. As I sat there drinking wine and munching on crab
claws and shrimp, I started thinking about a future motorcycle trip the
guys are planning. That's when it hit me.
I was sitting there wishing I was somewhere else. I'd rather be
drinking beer and eating hot dogs with my buddies after a long day
riding in the mountains than sitting at a formal dinner drinking
champagne and eating salmon and steak. Don't get me wrong, I
thoroughly enjoyed the weekend, but I was also reminded of where I'm
most comfortable. I wonder if the same thing that makes me a beer guy
also makes me a motorcyclist.

Motorcycling and fine dining are not mutually exclusive. I try to find
good restaurants close to campgrounds, although the motorcycle outfit
doesn't always blend into the dress code.

I enjoy fine dining with the best of them. It's just that some
people I know identify with that lifestyle. There's certainly
nothing wrong with it, it's just good to know who you are. In my
case, I prefer the simple pleasures. In the "beer person/champagne
person" debate, I'm a beer person.
