A co-worker and friend got a 2005 HD Road Glide last weekend from our
local HD dealer. $18K;  yellow with green metaflake.

I rode to their site on the way to work this AM to see the bike and lo
and behold the front fender was dinged up, the left side of the
fairing, right side of the saddle bag.

Out came the owner and his co-worker and friend who is a longtime
Harley owner. Seems the longtime HD owner backed into this like new
Road Glide yeasterday with his full-sized pickup, hitting the fairing
and sending the bike on to its side.

Sitting on the Road Glide, the bike is noticably taller than my VTX
and heavier. The owner of the Road Glide was sitting on my VTX which
he hadn't seen yet and remarked how much lighter mine was than his.
I'm not sure the Honda is really lighter since the VTX line is known
for its weight, but it did "seem" lighter, perhaps because it was
lower.

I did notice the heel-toe shifter on the Road Glide was very short
compared to my Honda, but the way Harley does it is that they put the
shifter closer to the engine so you don't encounter it unless you are
shifting. With the hona, the shifter is there when you are resting
your feet on the floorboard, but the shifter is longer so you're not
stepping on it.

Anyway, I'd never seen a Road Glide up close and personal in the wild
before; it's a different take on the standard Harley theme and a
pretty cool looking bike.

The one I rode in Hawaii, though pretty, was a complete and utter dog. Had
some miles on her but based on what I found, I'd buy the Honda if I were in
the market for a big cruiser.

As you should.  The Road Glide is not a cruiser, it's a tourer.

I stand corrected.  ;-)

Now, yer talking! :)-

The guy who bought the Road Glide asked me what I paid for my bike...
$8K new; just under $9K OTD, inc tax/title/tags and 5yr Honda extended
warranty.

He said, "that's 1/2 of what I paid and my bike's used!"

The other Harley owner and I chimed in on some fo the difs between my
bike and his... plastichrome vs chrome; his lifetime service warranty
($1700 pays for everything except shocks, tires, and accidents for as
long as you own the bike - inspections, oil changes, scheduled mtc,
etc), EFI vs carbs; driveshaft vs quieter belt; the Harley name and so
on.
