Never heard of it happening with FI, but I know two people whose carbed
bikes have gone up in flames from backfires. A Ducati 900SS (bevel
drive), and a Triumph TR6R, to be precise. The Triumph went up twice,
believe it or not.

can-do attitude and a set of cheap tools

Same owner both times on the Triumph ? Amazing !! Second
time, I'd have been tempted to let it burn.

So I'm really curious. How many times would it have to
catch fire before you would also let it burn ? At some
point, I'd figure that it was fulfilling some karmic mission
that it was put on the earth to execute.

This is making me giggle. I have a mental image of some shonky old
Trumpet committing ritual suttee, while high priests (men in brown
coats) gesture with Whitworth spanners and throw cupfuls of dirty old
straight 50 grade oil on the flames.
