I have a Shoei RF-1000 helmet. For my next helmet, I plan to get a brighter
color (I have silver now). The bright yellow RF-1000 is tempting.
Any stats on which color helmet is the safest?
I've also heard that one might want to put reflective tape on the back of
the helmet. Is that good advice? Where can I get such tape?
Thanks.

Dunno about "safest", but yellow is probably the most easily visible under
most lighting conditions.

Yes, one might.

Depends: do you ride at night? If yes, then it's probably a good idea.

Rider Warehouse (those nice Aerostitch people.) 1-800-222-1994

Ya could go with urine yellow, just in case.

Fire departments were changing from red to fluorescent lime green
(after studies that showed they are more visible,) , but I haven't
seen many lately. dunno if that's because of tradition or what.

Just the back? If you put it on, put it at least around the sides,
too.

It is, in a way. People saw the neon yellow fire trucks but didn't
identify them as fire trucks, which are supposed to be red.

A nice design I've seen is a circle and some chevrons. You put the
circle on the back of the helmet and the chevrons pointing forward on
the sides. That way, when you turn your head to check what's in the lane
next to you, the cager behind you will see the shape change and maybe
get a clue (in addition to your turn signal) that you're going to change
lanes.
