First motorcycle was a 2006 Honda Shadow 600. Also picked up a 2006 Suzuki
Katana 600, mostly out of curiousity.
I strongly dislike the Katana, and I'm going to sell it promptly. Reason is
that the seating posture aggravates my back and neck, and I don't find it
comfortable. Also, the vibration is at a higher frequency than the Shadow,
and it leaves my hands numb. It was fun driving at 100+, but don't like the
bike. Also don't like the gas mileage. Beautiful piece of engineering
work, but not for me.
Am searching for probably a slightly larger cruiser. I'm thinking Honda
Shadow Aero or the Honda Shadow 750. Just a touch more power, but about the
same gas mileage and same comfort.
Any other bikes I should look at?
Any other thoughts?
P.S.--It is tough being a first time rider and having to experiment to
figure out what I like. But, I think I've figured it out ...

Also, check out the Star line. V-Star 1100 in the mid-size range, and
the Road Star in the big twins.

The Suzuki C50 (800 cc) is comparable to the Shadow Aero. It has, for me
anyway, a more comfortable saddle and floorboards with heel-toe shifter.
One plus for the Suzuki is that it has fuel injection so there is no choke
to mess with when cold and no need to warm it up before driving.

This looks interesting.
Gas mileage? Around 55 MPG? (I'm naively assuming you own one ...)

I've just had mine about 3 weeks now and average 48 mpg so far.
