Not really a problem with modern tyre tech and on a slow bike (which the
Thruxton is).

Tyre growth at Bonnie speeds isn't going to be much. I doubt the
diameter of the tyre is going to increase by half an inch. A few
millimetres, maybe. But no, it's not a good idea to fit a really
close-fitting guard.
