I have no idea. Except CBs were street bikes, CLs were dual sports,
and SLs were dirt bikes, all street legal.
i.e. CB350/SL350/SL350 all shared the same motor, there was no SL450
(too bad) there were no CL or SL 750s, unlike the 175s, 125s.
CB == street bike.

CLs were "street scramblers", the same bike as the CB but with upswept
pipes and a slightly smaller gas tank. I had one (1971 CL350) and it
was a pig off road. Definitely not a dual sport!

Apparently, it really doesn't stand for anything. It's just a model
designation. They were generally inline motors, as opposed to V or
boxer designs. But the smallest of them were singles.
As for the letters *after* the displacement number:
A = Automatic - Well, the Hondamatic transmission anyway.
C = Custom
K = Standard designation. On the early SOHCs, no designation = K model
F = SuperSport
T = Twin
CM was the longitudinal mount V-twin.
GL was/is the boxer 4 or 6 in the GoldWings.
CBX was the inline 6.
CMX was the longitudinal mount V-twin turbo.

And also the parallel twin 200, 250 and 400 and probably more.

And also the Silver Wing version of the CX500 V-twin

And also an across the frame four and a DOHC single.

No, it wasn't. That was just CX.
No hard and fast rules for anything, really.
