I had the 650 silverwing and it did ok up to about 65. exelent milage
and decient power low down. large torque over though. not a handeler but
a nice small tourer, wish I had been able to keep it. KB

My old 250 did OK up to 65mph ;-)
The trouble with the Silver Wing was that it wasn't a small tourer: it
was a bloody big tourer with a small engine in it. That CX engine was
amazing (you'll have gathered by now that I like them!) but in a bike
that size....

I'd have to agree. My '82 Silverwing (one word) is 30" from the ground
to the seat. I'm 5'7", have a 24" inseam and have had my right hip
replaced. It's a struggle to get on and off (easier getting off) and
I've managed to drop it three times since I bought it last August. Each
time was in either a driveway or a parking lot and my forward speed
varied from 0-1 mph. Once it starts over there's really no stopping it.
I'm built like a fireplug but that thing whips my ass if it decides it
wants to go over.
That being said, it cruises the interstate easily and I don't get blown
all over the road. It's quite happy cruising at 65-75 mph and gets
around 50 mpg on average.
Now that I've had it for a while, I wish it had a 750cc engine instead
of the 500cc currently in it. But it's got a ton of torque and
accelerates sharply if you delay your shifts to about 7k instead of the
more leisurely 4k.
The Silver Wing (two words) is the currently built scooter.

Excuse me? What the fuck are you saying? I've taken a posted dry weight,
and come to a damn good guess as to what the wet weight must have been.
And 550lbs for a 650cc bike is *heavy*. I mean, it's light compared to a
1000cc Gold Wing, bloody great Harley, or other lumps, but no way is it
light.
Take Moto Guzzi's V65 Spada - a fully faired 650cc shaft drive V-twin of
the same era. Dry weight under 200kg. Or the 1000cc Spada. Same spec
(I've owned two), and wet weight, ready to roll, the same as the CX650,
despite a 350cc capacity difference.
Take off the blinkers. The CX was a great bike, but it was a heavy old
thing.

I looked at every 650 sp there was, 82 to 85 the (only thing I could
find close) and while it was light at 423 lbs not one had a full fairing
or bags and they were a sport bike usually kept pretty light as a
catagory. not really a compareison to a dress touring to my thinking. If
you can find me a pic and specs that I couldn`t I would be interested to
take another look. KB
