Looks promising.

I'm not sure that the system as described is the "right" technology, as it
relies on GPS.

The GPS network is very reliable, but I wonder if something simpler could be
devised.

I'm reminded of TCAS, which doesn't use the GPS network.

I've sometimes thought about a limited TCAS for motorcycles, especially for
threats from the rear. Once cheap CCD camera and some machine vision
software. It should be able to flag traffic from the rear that isn't in a
deceleration profile.

I try to keep my eyes open when I'm stopped and there is traffic approaching
from behind. I also try to leave at least 15 feet of space so I can go full
throttle and make it around the car in front if I need to avoid getting
rear-ended. But I do wonder if I'd be quick enough.

Note the mention of "cars driving themselves"?

Only a matter of time.

That would only make it easier to surf traffic if you ride a
motorcycle unecncumbered by crap electronics...ABS, GPS etc.

Hm.

Do cars text message, talk on cell phones, eat breakfast, read the
newspaper, engage in road-rage duels, or put on their eye makeup while
they're driving?

No?

Bring on the self-driving cars!
