Damn! This is a topic I never thought I'd see here, in ricegrinderville.

I heard this one over in Reeky already. It mostly effects the Goldwing and
no lay-offs, rather they plan on moving the effected workers to their OH
car lines.

Doesn't this seem particularly wierd with the dollar currently FALLING
in value compared with almost every foreign currency? Vehicles built
or assembled in the U.S. will be cheaper (all other things being
equal) in comparison to those built or assembled in Japan or Europe
over at least the next couple of years.
Do you suppose the new Japanese plant the article mentioned is so much
more efficient (energy, processes, automation) that they can make up
for (or even surpass) the increased costs caused by the currency
exchange difference?
And if so, what does that say about the future of Japanese or European
investment in manufacturing infrastructure in the U.S. ?

Well, they did it to boost production of cars. Seems to me that the
cars probably generate a lot more profits. I'm betting the ratio of
Accords to Goldwings is a rather large one.

Wonder if it has anything to do with the expected automatic transmission of
the 2010 model GW? Might be made in the Accord factory in Japan.
