"Hookey Friday" ....man I love those words. Not near as good as "two
weeks off", but pretty good just the same.

It's 24F' right now and dark out at 6:15AM EST and the hippy dippy
weather man says we're colder here than anyplace in the country,
including Anchorage Alaska. How can that be?! But, not to worry, Steve
is a good friend of Mr. Gerbing! I'll put on the big, bulky, electric
gauntlet gloves, the jacket liner, pants and socks and I'll be totally
toasted ... er toasty! With the Fox Creek leathers on the outside it's
a great day to go for a ride and enjoy being alive. No posse today,
just me and the road and some CDs with a few MP3s burned on them for
the CD player. Lotta' old dude music, with my buddy Bob Dylan, John
Fogharty maybe some Creedance and little blues from EC, Buddy Guy,
maybe some stones.. Sticky Fingers, Let it Bleed. Regulation
Motorcycle Music. I love the tunes when I'm riding, nothing blends
better with the Supertrapps than a great guitar riff. It's just all
part of it for me. I even bought some better speakers, "Hogtunes" so I
can crank it up. Like Sarah Palin says "crank her up, and get her
did!" LOL! Kidding, kidding!!

No idea where I'm going, but I know where my first stop is. Yep, the
50/50, in downtown Fitchburg. Three over medium, bacon, wheat, homies
and coffee. Flirting with Heather and a full breakfast is such a great
way to start the day. It's the zen of it all. West and south feels
right. There's a road called Rt 116 that you can catch off Rt 112 in
central/western Mass that I haven't been in all year and it deserves a
ride. So many roads out there in between and around Northampton and
Greenfield. Sometimes out there it's like being on the
Massachusetts/Colorado border.

Watch out for Bambi and Wild Turkey and not just the one in the
bottle.

Maybe go out to Stockbridge and see if Arlo is hanging out. More
hippies per square mile out there than most parts of the world
anymore. So many Volvos and VW buses, you'd think it was 1969, not
2008.

Gotta' take days like this as you can get them and enjoy everyone of
them. When your my age, you think more about the fact that you don't
have an unending infinite supply of them left, like I maybe did when I
was younger.

Being alone I'll take my time and bring a camera and maybe post some
pics when I get back.

Ride safe all.

Try hanging out at "Mother Trucker's" in North San Juan, California. Home of
Ram Das's spiritual community. 2nd and 3rd generations using phrases like
"groovy" and "far out" in normal conversation. There is probably a fortune
in split-window buses rusting out under the pines. Damn nice roads there
too.

It was a great day for riding. Started off cold, but the sun came out
and warmed up the day nicely on the later side of 10:00AM.
I started off the day in the usual place. Breakfast at the 50/50
http://www.pbase.com/stevel1949/image/105008286 Heather says to say
hello to all you guys. http://www.pbase.com/stevel1949/image/26439288
If you're ever in Fitchburg, stop into the 50/50, you'll be glad you
did. http://www.pbase.com/stevel1949/image/26439285

Left the diner and headed south, where the foliage might be a bit
nicer, down the northeast section of Connecticut. Some great roads
down there. It's kind of millionaires alley, with gentleman horse
farms and summer homes of the rich and famous. Lot's of money and
great country back roads. Check out more pics here.

Near the end of the day I came to a cute little village in Petersham
Massachusetts and a church with this sign. My feelings exactly!

ride safe all!
