What is the most inportant thing I should do to my bike for the winter?

That's bullcrap. Just start it up and warm it up once in a while, once
or twice a month. Start your lawn mower too.

Bad advice. Best thing to do for winter (cold) storage, is to fill the
tank, drain the carb(s) and let it sit. If you're really worried you can
pull the spark plugs and dump a teaspoon full of oil in each cylinder,
crank it over a few times to distribute the oil, then put the plugs back
in.
Starting it up without running it _under load_ for at least a half hour
just leaves even more acidic condensate in the oil than you started with.
Don't do it.

Just change the oil in the spring. What's the problem?
