but keep having nightmares about some guy crashing his car into me.

how many of you guys have been in accidents/close calls?

I like the though of getting on a ped and riding but i have that fear.

what are the insurance rates like for a limited powered motorcycle (max
speed 70km/h)?

Accidents are one thing. What you really have to worry about are the
psychos who run you down on purpose. BTDT, got the scars and still
riding. Life is for living, not worrying.

Go for something at least 100 cc's or better with a manual
transmission.  Unless modified, a moped struggles to keep up
with traffic going 50 KMH and because cagers like to push the
speed limit a little.  Mopeds tend to be slow accelerating.

A small motorcycle will be able to keep up with traffic and
help to keep you out of harm's way.  70 KMH is not a problem
with a small motorcycle of at least 100 cc's, top speed (wide
open) is at least 95 KMH.

As far as insurance goes, call around and get some quotes.  If
you buy used, you won't need comprehensive if you purchase it
in cash.  Call a motorcycle repairer or dealer and find out
what insurance companies are best for insuring motorcyclists.

It's a hobby for the truly paranoid, as there is no doubt that they are
ALL truly out to get you.

Consider getting a vintage moto guzzi, or maybe one of those
early bmw singles.....
