I have nothing to narrate but a short 25-mile ride into a hazy 70°
Indian Summer twilight. I picked up a pad for a 25-year-old drum
humidifier. I bought $9-worth of Fireside and Golden Russet apples
including two gallons of cider and exchanged advice with the orchard
proprietor about surviving the election, transcending the economic
crisis, and achieving world peace. I ate a hamburger with fries and
coffee for $5.75 at Kim's Five Corners.
The sun was a red ball on a smoky sky turning violet. No deer were in
sight. The savor of onions was keen on the palate, an oaky bouquet
emanated from the ketchup, and there was a curry crunch to the
pickles. These carried me back to childhood evenings at the county
fair.

It was nice up here too. Rode the bike to work this morning in 40 degrees
and fog. Had a nice temp of 60 after work and did a loop to St. Germain and
back home. Not too many more of these left.

Great report!!
2 Gals cider?! Where did you put that?
Sounds like my kind of ride! Not long enough, but lots of character!
Kim's sounds great!

One was frozen. It went into the freezer. One was fresh from
yesterday. It went out on the kitchen counter. Today I'll mix in the
last of a nearly empty jug from the refrigerator, pop on an airlock,
and let the fresh juice fizz for a couple of days before refrigerating
it. Drinking a cup a day, I can stretch a gallon to cover a month.

Oh, you mean, "How did I pack it on my bike?" That's very different.
The frozen jug went into the left pannier on top of my tool bag, pint
of MMO, and pint of Berryman's.
The fresh jug went into the right pannier on top of my bandaids,
bandages, pint of brandy, aspirin, quart of spare fuel, quart of
5W-30, and quart of ethylene glycol.
The nine-pound bag of apples went in the top case with my camera,
backup SD chips, the humidifier drum, and the new foam element for it.
Was I overloaded? Heck, yeah! ... but those 25-year-old Vetter cases
are tough. They're deceptively huge: There're no sharp corners to
detract from storage space. Fasteners shed stress fortuitously
throughout the plastic so it doesn't split. The engineering was
inspired, I guess. Anyway, they're a marvel to behold.
