I know the new Indian bikes are mentioned here now and again. Finally,
it seems that a new Chief for the 2009 model year will roll out in
Nov'ish 2008. Before then I think they will be opening an Indian swag
shop as a precursor to the full Indian dealerships they hope will
spring up.
I didn't realize that they were developing their own engine and
transmission until I read the new newsletter. That's quite an
undertaking, but i guess and Indian wouldn't be an indian with a S&S
motor.
I can't imagaine what all this gear-up costs - new designs for bike,
new powertrain design and production, new manufacturing plant,
employees, bringing up new dealerships - all of which must take place
3 years before you even have a bike to sell. That's gotta be some
bucks.
I do love where they are located - foothills of NC - near Charlotte.
I wonder what the new chief will run dollar-wise and how long they've
estimated it will take to recoup their R&D costs.
