I owe less than 2K on this bike. I can't begin to tell you how much I've
invested beyond the purchase price. All I can say is that turning 105 BHP
and carrying Screaming Eagle 6 speed (not the new stock junk) she is the
real deal.
Well now, here comes a loss of 6 months in my life, 33 days in the hospital,
total, and Harley wants their bike back. "their bike" I have NEVER missed a
payment until now, I owe less than 2K on it period. When the money comes in
for the Buell, the Harley is going to be paid off and I'm going to put
progressive touring shocks on it and a new rear 80 spoke wheel. "Their
Bike". Maybe they own a muffler. I've got a bunch of those.

Have you contacted Harley ? Years ago, my sister in law
got behind in her car payments due to a hospitalization.
I contacted the lender for her, explained the situation and
negotiated a temporary reduction in monthly payments.
They were happy that she was making an effort to get in
front of the problem and willing to work out an arrangement.

With finance companies of any type (including banks) it's *always*
better to let them know in advance if you're going to have a problem,
rather than just let the default(s) happen. Ultimately, all they want
is your money, not the used Harley, Ford or whatever, nor the hassle
of seizing it, storing it and selling it, or (more likely) paying
someone else to do so.
Tell them you have a problem, or are about to have one, and they will
frequently renegotiate, just as you said.
