I ride to work just about every day. I only use my truck (bought instead of
a car, so I could haul my bikes) when it rains, snows or I have shit to
haul. I ride because I WANT to, not because I have to.

Every trip I take involves some kind of motorcycle riding. As most of you
know, I even rented a Harley in Italy, even though I was there on business
and had a driver take me to and from the studio every day.

I have several weather links on IE and have several thermometers around the
parameter of my house to see what the temperature is like, so I can dress
properly.

All my planning for days off, like a weekend, involve a MC ride. Preferably
a long one. When I got into shooting clay, I made sure I could get breakdown
cases that would fit nicely on my bikes. If I ever get an extended vacation
(other then one caused by a MC crash) I will make it a MC trip.

Cathy rode a scooter (and then a Shadow VLX), when I first met her in 1997.
Our first date was a motorcycle ride to Neptune's Net and The Rock Store.
She rode pillion.
After several years, I realized that I was in love with her, only after we
(I) crashed in Taft.
My first thoughts were about my bike. Second, was my physical condition and
if I would be able to get up off the asphalt. You see, I had forgotten Cat
was on the back! Yow!
Anyway, after several hours in the hospital. and a pretty rough night at a
local motel, we rented a U-Haul, picked up the bike from the Mckittrick fire
station, and took the bike home. Every bump in that damn U-Haul was murder.
Yet, the very day, we rode the Crest on the Velocette.

I am hopelessly addicted to motorcycling. Lately I've been talking to guys
who ride little dual sport bikes, who ride trails and such up the canyon.

I now sometimes think about the day when I will not be able to ride
anymore. And how or if I will be able to deal with that. This makes me want
to ride even more.

I am so addicted.

Despite being down to a single bike (plus my wife's EX250 in an emergency)
nearly everything you wrote applies to me as well.  I have the additional
burden of not being able to ride for months at a time, which would probably
drive you crazy(er).

You can remove the ( ).

Oh, The main reason I rented and then bought a house in this area, in 1976,
because of the great motorcycling roads just a few blocks away.

Do you mean Big Tujunga? I was under the impression that all the roads
designated as "truck trails" had locked gates to keep the public out.

I suppose a rider could make a trail around the gate or slide the bike
under the
gate...
