We have had the lights on for a while now and my sons SRX250 also has
the indicators on all the time as well (except when indicating of
course) as a learners safety feature....along with red overspeed warning
light that comes on when he gets to 80kmh (learners speed limit is
70kmh). In the last week he has had three cars cut him off by turning in
front of him. I am assuming the drivers are seeing his indicator light
is on, though not flashing (and not noticing the other one is on as
well), and thinking he is turning and they have the right of way. I'm
hoping the fix will be as simple as cutting a wire from the headlight.....

I never new Iver Johnson made motorcycles. PeeWee Herman bikes with
single cylinder motors bolted on and stylie V-twins. I was googling an
old 12ga. shotgun I just brought and enjoyed learning more about his
company...motorbike and gun manufacturer....I wonder if he had a still
out the back to complete the trifecta.  :)

And I came across another arse backwards American thing. For a country
thats foreign policy is to convert other countries to it's way of doing
things, you sure don't like to 'comply' yourself when it comes to simple
things.....like going metric....even your gallons are a different size.

I scored an ex-Aussie roo shooters gun chambered in 303-270. It's a
wildcat round and no factory ammo is available, but reloading isn't a
problem, all I needed was a set of dies. Turns out they must be gold
plated !! $250 instead of the usual $80. So I had a look on Trade Me to
see if there were any secondhand sets around....no matches for my search
in NZ so I looked a bit further afield and thats when I came across the
American equivalent....the 270-303. Turns out the Americans say the
bullet size first, then the case that needs to be modified while the
rest of the world has the cartridge first and the bullet second......I
had another look at Trade Me under 270-303 and scored a et of American
dies for $100.

We have had daytime running lights for decades and I am pretty sure
the front signal lights are also required to be running lights.

While blind cage drivers do cut in front of motorcycles far too often,
I doubt they are interpreting the running lights as a signal your son
is turning.

Tell ya something I see far too often with riders, especially
inexperienced riders, is they rely too much on the notoriously bad
self canceling signal lights on many bikes. I see riders leaving their
left signal light on and wonder why cars are cutting in front of them.

Before you start disconnecting lights, take his bike out for a spin
and see how well his signal lights auto cancel. If they don't, hell
even if they do, drill it into him to manually [1] cancel the signals
as a regular habit. It might save his life some day.

[1] Now before all the Harley riders jump on me, I know HD's have a
very good self canceling system and attempting to manually cancel the
signal could actually turn it back on again.

Always checking the blinkers is a given. Ever since they were little
they have been my warning system. Neither the Landrover or Nissan ute
have self canceling blinkers. He will just have to continue to be
defensive but I will be disconnecting the 'running lights'. If they
can't see the headlight, then the blinkers on won't make a difference. I
noticed an old yank tank turning and it had the brake lights as indicators.

It is a common form of blindness that eye tests ignore.
