Today in Calgary, in the middle of February, a day closer to
Valentines Day than Easter, was just like a spring. The temp got up to
12c, low 50's far. when as early as last week it was 30 below.
WOW!
Even better, it is my day off.
Obviously I spent the afternoon on the bike. The roads are a mess. The
heavy snow that fell the other day is melting fast and mixing with the
ice chips dumped on the asphalt for traction, forming a slimy,
slippery, slurry that is slick as snot. So caution was the order of
the day, as was locking up the wheels with the slightest application
of the brakes.
Despite that riding for the first time in a month was quite a treat.
Hell I even got a bit of a sunburn.

That is just not right. You are soooo much farther north than me and we had
a high of 10 degrees. No clue what that is in your language ;)

Ja!
In my backyard the snow is up to the tops of the rabbit fence around
my apple trees (2'). Them bunnies had just better hibernate until it
melts a little is all I say. We're due another nine inches by Sun
eve' if you believe reports. Needless to say, riding is out of the
question. Planting the trees I have on order for the first week of
March may be out of the question.
The temps during the last storm were so low that the snow achieved
superfluidity. It seeped into every nook and cranny and filled every
defile. It even lapped up over the banks left by clearing the last
snowfall. There is more on the ground than I have ever seen around
here. There is nowhere to put any more. I am spending all day
tomorrow moving the mounds back in all directions so there will be.

It's Spring here. The yellow and orange fiddlenecks are blooming on
the green hillsides, and the only snow on the roads is in shady places
in the foothills where the county snow plows don't go.

It's wonderful to have such clear weather that I can see the highest
peak in the USA
from the comfort of the warm valley, but it won't be accessible until
June.

Remember, Alaska has been a state since the late 50s.. I met a guy this
week who climbed Mt McKinley (Denali) about 20 years ago. He made it
sounds like quite an adventure.
We've got about a foot of snow this week. It's pretty but the roads are
slick as snot.
