Sometimes I point the wheel of my S40 in the general direction
I want to go and roll the throttle on full, feeling my big 650
thumper with its 35 ponies take the bit and roar into life,
bearing me away in a rush of performance (such as it is) towards
distant horizons and often I recall this wondrous passage from
_The Wind in the Willows_:
Next moment, hardly knowing how it came about, he found he had
hold of the handle and was turning it. As the familiar sound
broke forth, the old passion seized on Toad and completely
mastered him, body and soul. As if in a dream he found himself,
somehow, seated in the driver's seat, as if in a dream,
he pulled the lever and swung the car round the yard and out
through the archway; and, as if in a dream, all sense of right
and wrong, all fear of obvious consequences, seemed temporarily
suspended. He increased his pace, and as the car devoured
the street and leapt forth on the high road through the open
country, he was only conscious that he was Toad once more,
Toad at his best and highest, Toad the terror, the traffic-queller,
the Lord of the loan trail, before whom all must give way
or be smitten into nothingness and everlasting night. He chanted
as he flew, and the car responded with sonorous drone; the miles
were eaten up under him as he sped he knew not whither, fulfilling
his instincts, living his hour, reckless of what might come to him.

A sportbike group in Orange County, CA had annual "Toad Rides".
Unlike the MSF notion of "No Rider Gets Left Behind" (at least on the
way to the first restaurant), the "Toad Ride" assumes that all riders
are competent enough to ride at extralegal speeds and know the roads,
and will meet up at the agreed-upon restaurant, or whatever.
If a rider wants to bug out, that's OK too, he doesn't have to tell
the MSF nannies that he's splitting, he doesn't even have to give the
tradition one-finger
biker salute to the group.

Sounds like your average US sportbike group ride as well.
Of course, Krusty wouldn't know that since he doesn't own a bike -much less
a sportbike- and doesn't go on rides of any sort. (Snort.)
