I might be in Calgary in mid-June, and if I am I'll probably try to rent
a ride to run to Vancouver and Victoria and back to visit some friends,
once I'm done the business part of my visit. I'm in Ontario, and don't
really have enough time on this trip to ride all the way from here to
the Wet coast and back, as appealing as the prairies might be.
Initial searches turn up 2 Harley dealers, Kane's and Calgary HD, but
little else. I'm not averse to HD but I want something with mid-mounted
footpegs and controls; I find the forward-mount stuff is just too
uncomfortable for distances longer than 100km or so. That reduces the HD
options somewhat, I think. Other options would be ST1300, Concours, big
BMW. I'd be riding alone and not interested in the humongous Battlestar
Galactica rides with armrests and DVD players and whatever they come
with, but a couple of side bags are required. Reasonable range on a tank
of gas would be a good thing, say 300KM or so.
Anybody got any pointers other than the 2 places I mentioned?

You can try these guys:
http://www.allseasonmotorsports.ca/RentalAdventures/Pricing.asp
They might have something that appeals to you. I've seen them at a
couple of the motorcycle shows but have never dealt with them.
Give me a call if you make it to Calgary 403-286-2998. I might be on
an extended ride myself in mid june but if I am in town I'd gladly
ride part of the way with you. At the very least I could recommend a
few roads less traveled, that will get you to Vancouver and back,
staying off the Trans Canada for the most part.

Yeah, I saw those guys too. Hyosungs just have no appeal to me
whatsoever, and the KLR or the 650GS (or even smaller) isn't what I'm
after. Maybe the V-Star. Your Millenium is what I'd call the
"Battlestar" class.
