Obviously that fine person has never been to court in Kalifornia.

First, you take a day off work and appear on the day and time specified. But
the magistrate on the bench can only accept your guilty plea or assess bond
and schedule a trial before a real judge. So you pay the same as the fine
would have been then take another day off work to see the judge - except you
won't get to unless you also hired a lawyer. The court clerk schedules
folks with lawyers first and since they are often complicated cases the
court wont get to you before quitting time. So your case will be continued
and you will have to come back another day, then another, then another.
Miss a roll call and you will be found guilty and forfet bail.

That's one reason not to live in such places.

And since the nutcase 2% of every other State's population already
seem to hear little voices in their heads calling "Moooove toooo
Califoooornia!", we can't even *begin* to tell you how grateful we are
that you've decided not to to bless us with your physical presence.

There are enough out-of-state goofballs here already.

You're saying that after 150+ years, we finally made quota ?

It would seem so. From where I set it appears way too many ended up in
elected posistions...

Sigh.

As an old-fashioned conservative (I.E. one who's disgusted by G. Bush
and Company) I hate to admit it, but that's largely the fault of
California's Republican State Central Committee who, by refusing to
give their blessing to any but the most rabidly right-wing candidates,
have pretty much ensured that the Democrats will continue to win re-
elections like clockwork.

California is -and always has been- a centrist state politically, and
extremes of either right *or* left repel the voters here in droves.
(As an example you need only look to our current Governor, a centrist
Republican who won office quite handily -and who is now probably
regretting it- simply by refusing to lean all the way to the right.)

The far right wing California Republicans just *HATE* Arnold because
he refuses to toe the party line on such things as abortion, but they
seem not to comprehend the fact that he'd never have won the office in
the first place if he'd acted like an extremist.

Trying to claim that you own the high moral ground is all well and
good, but if you refuse to compromise in the slightist way in order to
get elected, chances are you'll be claiming that high moral ground
from out of office.
