I parked next to this at the mall today:
http://www.dtashley.com/temp20110710/
(the URL above won't be good indefinitely).
No calipers on either side, and the front brake hose just hanging.
I'm a little surprised. It is fine with me if somebody isn't riding a
beauty queen, but structural and control issues ... you've gotta be
kidding!
I noticed he left the ignition key in it. I'm going to speculate that
it won't get stolen.

It's a Honda. Who cares what happens to it?

Thanks for awakening my memories of rust. Even the vise-grips are
rusty.

Honda riders aren't the exactly the sharpest tools in the shed...
One time I saw a Rebel with a broken swing arm still being ridden.
Another time I saw a Nighthawk with a missing front axle clamp.
I called that to the owner's attention.
He said that he'd just ridden the bike from San Francisco to Los
Angeles without any problem, and he said that he would get it fixed
when he got back to San Francisco...

Could you clarify what you mean by front axle clamp?
(I'm so unfamiliar with motorcycles that I don't know the different
designs for this and that.)
My motorcycle has a front axle that screws in. The threads engage the
left fork, and the head of the axle is clamped after it is torqued by
a feature built into the right fork. I believe the purpose of the
clamping is to elminate any possibility that the axle will turn itself
loose.
In the case of my motorcycle, I could imagine the motorcycle being
structurally sound without clamping the axle. I would not do that,
but it seems like it might be far safer than no brakes.
What is a front axle clamp as you are referring to it?
