My consulting business is in the tank with this economy, so I'm
sending out resumes. We were heavily invested in bank stock, so our
portfolio took a beating the last few months. For the first time in
my life, I'm concerned about keeping the house if the economy gets
much worse. So naturally, I'm looking at new bikes.
One of my criteria is cost of operation. With the Nighthawk, all you
need to do is change the oil and clean and adjust the chain. That's
about it. I have friends with Ducatis and BMWs and know those bikes
are more expensive to maintain. Has anybody ever posted estimated
cost per mile for riding different bikes? For instance, bike A has
to have valves adjusted every X miles at a cost of Y, so the cost per
mile for that service is Y/X. Do that for every scheduled service
item and you have the cost per mile of recommended service. Include
depreciation, insurance, gas mileage, tire cost and wear, etc. and
you have a comparable cost per mile of operation for that bike. This
doesn't take into consideration suitability for intended use,
reliability, performance, and other factors, but it would be good
information to have when shopping for a bike.

I would think all bikes are about the same to maintain, except for Harleys
where you pay a premium for parts and service. But if you can do your own
service, you can prolly ride about anything for the same cost...
It's too bad Toyota doesn't make a bike. If they did you would just
change the oil every 5,000 miles and a major tune up every 100,000 miles.

That means you are not thinking at all.

Naw, simply shows how anyone can make idiotic statments based on
misinformation.

You are being kind. There are plenty of other posts, however, to
amply demonstrate the accuracy of TOG's analysis.
