I'm assuming many of you own bikes.  Do any of you own bikes like
this?

I'm interested in how they compare to Harleys (or the type of bikes in
which bearded men in Middle America often ride).  Harley's are faster?
Handle better?

I've heard that at this point, Harley's are over-rated status symbols.
Then again my motocycle knowledge would fit between the spokes.

This is true. For each measurable quality, a big V-twin Harley is
surpassed by some other motorcycle(s). And yet they keep selling.

The reason for this is enigmatic. It has often been attributed
to the MoCo's clever image-building (ie, marketing) but this is only
partly correct. In fact Harley promotional literature probably gets read
more by Harley riders than by anyone else.

Yamaha prints brochures featuring tough-looking guys with 2-days
growth of facial hair riding its Star line of metric cruisers.
(Perhaps this is what the OP had in mind about "bearded men").

To me these ads look very unconvincing. Mainly because they're riding
*Yamahas*! Put these same guys on Harleys and I would be convinced.

Yamaha at least makes v-twins that don't leak oil like the Exxon Valdez.

Yamaha's first because Yamahas last.

Still pushing the "Speed And Greed" party line, eh?

(Bought my first street bike there while in college, BTW)
