A man who has fathered at least 20 children -- and possibly as many
as 21 -- is proving a challenge for the state of Tennessee..."

Concerning a Desmond Hatchett, 29, alleged to have sired 21 children
with 11 mothers. Regrettably, his reproductive performance has far
exceeded his economic productivity. Fortunately (especially for
the children) they all happen to live in a wealthy, generous and
compassionate society which attempts, within the limitations
of bureaucratic clumsiness, to help the less fortunate to lead
happy lives and achieve their human potential.
This man (and his women) are merely obeying Mother Nature's imperative,
which is
A wild call and a clear call
That may not be denied... [--John Masefield]
...to go forth and be fruitful and populate the Earth.
The fact is that Nature, in Her wisdom, cares not a whit for human
conceits such as courts of law, alimony or social responsibility.
When I was in school the teacher mentioned an English scholar
named Thomas Robert Malthus (1766–1834) whose call for voluntary
birth control by "moral restraint" was greeted by hoots and jeers
from the whole class. As well it might, we being at our lifetime
peak sex drive.
But Malthus' point was that [what we now term] Social Assistance
actually helps create the impoverished classes which it subsidizes.
The US population is 306 million.
Mainland China with slightly less land area has 1.4 BILLION.
Since 2000, China's population has increased by an amount which is
nearly half that of the current TOTAL for the US. China is rapidly
outbreeding the United States -- at the present rate by an equivalent
entire US population every 20 years.
This is a clear and present danger.

Wrong. Seems they aren't so worthless after all -- clearly the US needs
prolific citizens like Desmond Hatchett!
But even with more land area and access to more resources the current
American lifestyle is too inefficient to support a population anywhere
near that of China.
Sprawled-out shopping malls and subdivisions, throw-away gadgets,
gas-guzzling SUV's... all that needs to change or else [some unspecified
but extremely disagreeable outcome the exact details of which
I can't predict] will sooner or later occur.
That's because Mother Nature exhibits another tendency: occasionally
She intervenes to correct any kind of imbalance which has grown
to the point of instability. When the imbalance happens to be social
we call these corrections "wars", "revolutions", etc. The Chinese
call them "interesting times".
Militarily the United States is the most powerful nation -- but has only
4.5% of the world's population. Clearly this is a gross imbalance and
a prime candidate for adjustment.
Bottom line: to maintain its global position the US badly needs more
people, and [at long last, what's relevant to this forum] more efficient
transportation for them:
Motorcycles and scooters.
So while the "rec" in rec.motorcycles means "recreation", our two
(and three) wheeled steeds will soon become much more than mere fun;
they'll be a key component of America's very survival.

Ah! (Claps hands.)
In these days of declining resources, collapsing ecosystems, rampant
pollution, economic implosion, and universal brouhaha, it's good to
see that pure, unadulterated insanity hasn't lost it's allure.
