I think most of the regulars here know Cam Penner. Although we don't
hear enough from him these days, he is one of the better respected
long time Reeky contributors.

Last year Cam organized a charity ride for Muscular Dystrophy. Doug is
Cam's little biker and has been struck with Muscular Dystrophy.

Cam tells the story far better than I. Please take a look at his web
site:
http://www.ridefordoug.com/

So on Sunday, not being able to join Cam for his BC ride, I took a
short Ride For Doug on my own.
http://www.actualriders.ca/ridefordoug.htm

I had a pretty full day booked and the weather report called for
thunder boomers in the late afternoon so I decided on a leisurely ride
up the old Trans Canada to Canmore and then on to Banff. For this
occasion I figured I's ride right into town and on to the Historic
Banff Springs Hotel.
http://www.fairmont.com/banffsprings

I have only stayed at this hotel once, for a conference, but I have
often attended special events there. It is an amazing facility.

The ride was great. To my surprise the Province is finally repaving
Highway 1a, the old Trans Canada Highway. For years they let the road
deteriorate hoping, I think, to discourage traffic and it got so bad I
stopped riding it. Seeing them pave the worst parts is good news.

After cruising around Banff for a bit, taking a few pictures, my Ride
For Doug took me home again.

Cam I see your BC ride was a huge success. Congrats! I'll be adding to
the funds your efforts have raised.

Til next year.

Nice photos, Don. I had plans for a ride but like most mice and men,
or some anyway, I didn't follow through. It's a tradition that's been
in my family for years.

Hey guys. Thanks a million. Forgive me for not being more "present"
here,
but I'm finding almost as much to do POST ride as pre-ride.

Some of the great news is that we've blown past $4k, and are now into
the $5K range.
And counting.

And when I tell Doug where some of his "friends" are riding for him,
and point it out on a
map, it's pretty cool for all of us. It's really powerful to our
extended family too - just to
know that the world isn't a cruel harsh place. Good is out there -
and it's closer than you
think.

I'm going to try to put links to you guys ride photos and stuff on
the www.ridefordoug.com
website. If you don't want something up there, let me know - but I
figure if you're putting it
into reeky, you're pretty thick skinned...

(ps: Robert - you rode last year already, didn't you?)

Hi Cam. Long time no hear. Very worthy initiative you've got going
there. I was committed to another ride last Sunday ("Ride for
Hunger"), which Gladys and I went on. So many causes, just so many
weekends...

Btw, did you know H.O.G. is a major contributor to Muscular
Dystrophy? In 2004 the chapter I'm a member donated $8,000. There's
a good reason for you to buy a Harley, if you need an extra excuse to
get your wife's approval. ;)

I know the HOGs are big contributors. They're VERY much appreciated,
trust me. You can pass that message along. VERY much appreciated.

We certainly didn't turn away any Harley's at the ride. (Doug
actually has
a Pig webkinz that he's named "Harley") :)

I try to pop into reeky from time to time to keep current, but it's
hard finding
the time. Both kids are now riding with me, so there's more and more
excuses to "go out for a few minutes".

Check out the website over the next few weeks - I think you'll enjoy
the photos.
