My bud M at the blueberry farm still wants my chopper.

In case anyone missed it last time there's pix here:

He wants me to trade it + a $500 boat for a 5th wheel trailer for which
he sez I can get $4k. Mebbe more. In addition, he guarantees that if I
can't get that price by Sept 15 then we reverse the deal and I get
the chopper back. Also I can ride the thing any time I like.

At the moment I'm into this bike for about $3200, and it still needs new
steering bearings and a few other minor details (such as a front brake
cable, signal lights, a horn, front fender etc). If I keep it, I would
only use it at city street speeds in town and mainly ride it around
to show off (trying to avoid, shall we say, "Imperial entanglements").

Meanwhile, he's got a chopper that (probably) rides better than mine,
or would if it were fully built. Right now it's a ramshackle rolling
project; another CB750 in an Amen Savior frame:
http://www.650motorcycles.com/AmenSavior.html

The motor came out of a running bike (I heard it run) and there are
rusty 6" over forks. Since the rake is less extreme I think it would
handle better. Also from taking a few measurements I could rig up
a seating arrangement that would be more comfortable than the extreme
chopper posture on mine.

I was the one who found the Amen Savior on Craig's. I thought
the old-style spring loaded rear suspension was cool, and M ended
up buying it. If it were mine I'd be looking for a springer or girder
front end. And I have a strange feeling it will somehow end up mine
(M and I have swapped so many bikes and other deals over the past
few years that it's all a blur in my mind).

Naturally he's willing to trade my chopper for his straight across,
but I'd be giving up a working bike for a project. Ah, what to do.
Meanwhile I still have this '81 Stires VW springer trike project.
So many toys, so little time.

As others have pointed out, my chopper has many drawbacks... and
yet I love it. Remember Archie and his two girlfriends? Betty
is blonde and wholesome, the all-American poster girl. She represents
the well designed, roadworthy motorcycle, ie the sensible choice.

Veronica is rich, spoiled, self-centered, manipulative and scheming.
Betty is obviously the better candidate for wife and mother, so why does
Archie even give Veronica the time of day?

Because she's so irresistibly *sexy*, is why.

So, he needs to sell his trailer and buy your bike ( and maybe
your boat ).  In that order.

Great name !  Is that a LJTTH model ?  "Let Jesus Take The
Handlebars' )

Is your buddy allergic to cash, or just lazy and/or hard of
thinking?  Why doesn't *he* sell the trailer and give you
cash for your bike?  If it's so easy to sell that shouldn't
be a problem for him.

This "trade at all costs" mentality totally mystifies me.

My chopper runs now and he'd be able to ride it tomorrow.
It's an instant gratification kind of thing.
